John Burns

 

MARTINSVILLE — John Eric Burns, 64, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, passed unexpectedly from this life on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at his residence.

John was born in Martinsville on Wednesday, March 12th, 1947. He was one of four sons of the late Henry L. Burns, Jr. and Mary Jane (Lebo) Burns.

He graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1965 and went to work at Indiana Bell following high school. After 30 years of employment as a service technician with the telephone company, he retired in 1995. He continued to work as a self-employed contractor and handyman over the past 16 years throughout the community.

Burns held memberships and was actively involved in the V.F.W. Men’s Auxiliary Post #1257, Martinsville Elks Lodge #1349, and the Sons of the American Legion Post #230. He was also a member of the Martinsville Moose Lodge #1127 and the National Rifle Association.

His greatest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends and especially wood crafting with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, playing golf and gambling.

John will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends including his two sons, Brad and Bryan Burns, both of Martinsville; daughter, Susy Burns of Martinsville; three brothers, Donnie, Frank & Andy Burns, all of Martinsville; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Madelyn and Brody Burns.

Friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 26th from 4-8:00 p.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center. There will be a private committal service at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the V.F.W. Men’s Auxiliary, Children’s Christmas Fund, 850 State Rd. 39 Bypass, Martinsville, IN 46151.
