Coach William E. “Bill” Tutterow, 68, Martinsville, passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville.

He was born on Sunday, November 3, 1946 in Martinsville, Indiana, to the late James Orville and Ilett Idell (Scott) Tutterow.

Bill was a 1965 graduate of Martinsville High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree in 1969 from the University of Indianapolis and his Master's Degree in 1973 from Indiana University. He was a biology teacher, the head baseball coach and an assistant football coach at Martinsville High School for 39 years and retired in 2008.

He earned many awards during his career including being inducted into the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the University of Indianapolis Athletic Hall of Fame and the Martinsville High School Hall of Fame. He also received numerous "Coach of The Year" awards.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. (Jones) Tutterow, whom he married on July 26, 1969; son, Bryant Tutterow and wife Natalie of Westfield; daughter, Amy Alte and husband Austin of Martinsville; brothers, James Tutterow, Jr., Robert Tutterow, Randy Tutterow and Barth Tutterow; sisters, Loreen Guthrie and Sharon Quakenbush; grandchildren, Ayla Alte, Nevan Tutterow, Morgan Tutterow and Jenna Tutterow.

Bill was also preceded in death by siblings, John Tutterow, Darlene Tutterow and Patty Wynn.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 3150 East Myra Lane, Martinsville, Indiana, 46151 with Rev. Mark Suter and Rev. Becky Suter officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park.

The family has asked for contributions in Coach Tutterow’s memory to the Athletic Department at Martinsville High School or the Athletic Department at University of Indianapolis.

Tut, we miss you and I regret that we did not get to say goodby.  I will never forget how through your determination and leadership, you showed what one can accomplish athletically but more important as a friend.  I remember the tape recording you made while I was in Vietnam and how much it helped me through those difficult times.  Rest in peace friend, Martinsville lost a true legend.
